Race to the Top of Vermont

Every year board members, staff, mentors, families, and friends of Everybody Wins! participate in the Catamount Trail Association‘s Race to the Top of Vermont to raise funds for Everybody Wins! Vermont and match more reading mentors with children.

Join the team!
Keep children reading with their  mentors, no matter what.
  1. Fill out our fundraiser form here so we know you are on the team! Let me know whether you will be participating in the Race, volunteering, or fundraising at home.
  2. Create a fundraising page on the Everybody Wins! Just Giving site.  (We’ll send you directions, examples, and a link when you sign up. And we’re always here to help.) Fundraising starts on Monday August 3rd.
  3. If you want to volunteer, please let us know which day (Saturday afternoon or Sunday) and if Sunday, where you’d like to volunteer. CTA counts on us to bring a team of at least 10 volunteers to help on Race day (and fundraise for Everybody Wins!).
  4. If you want to climb the Toll Road, register for the Race to the Top here.  Choose Non-Member: RUN/BIKE/HIKE (unless you are a CTA member or you want to join). Don’t register to fundraise for registration (this means fundraising for CTA, not for Everybody Wins!). Register as an individual (NOT a team or a group) and use our code 26ebwvt30 for a discounted registration fee of $30. It’s important to use the code since that tells CTA and us who is on the Everybody Wins! team.
  5. Not ready to help fundraise? You can still contribute to Everybody Wins!’ Race to the Top here.

Here’s what  children say about Everybody Wins!

My mentor is so much fun and she helps me.

Every August, friends of reading climb Mt. Mansfield in the annual Race to the Top of Vermont to raise funds to keep children and mentors reading together. It’s 4.3 miles up the Toll Road and a great feeling of success to reach the top of Vermont!

More than 482 children were matched with mentors in 25-26 to read every week.

I got to read a hard book and understand it, and if I was in a bad mood, my mentor cheered me up.

To make all this happen, to bring reading to even more children in the next year, we need your help! Come hike the mountain with us (or volunteer for the Race) and raise pledges from your network of friends, family, and colleagues to keep children reading with Everybody Wins!

My mentor made me feel happy for being myself.

Even if you can’t be on the mountain on August 30th, you can help to raise money to support children and reading all over the state of Vermont!

For example, Marci, the Everybody Wins! coordinator in Waitsfield and a fabulous baker, bakes challah weekly with her children, sells it by subscription, and donates the proceeds to Everybody Wins!

Other mentees and mentors have asked people in their networks to pledge for each book (or each page!) they read in August.

What challenge could you take on, to keep children and mentors reading?

Even on a rainy Race day, Everybody Wins! team still makes it to the top!

Come pandemic, high water, or national upheaval, children will read with their Everybody Wins! mentors this fall—and the Race will help them start off strong.

To join the Everybody Wins! team for the 2026 Race:

  1. If you are connected with an Everybody Wins! site, talk with your site coordinator. They can tell you who else is taking part in your community.
